FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Welcome to the Beach School Bash 2022-2023! If you are new to our school or new to the Beach School Bash please scroll down for some FAQS. Do you have a question we didn’t answer? Please reach out at beachschoolbash@gmail.com.
What is the Beach School Bash?
The Beach School Bash is our annual school auction, and consists of two events:
- Online auction where you can bid on a variety of great items from your phone or computer. The online auction is open to anyone and runs from April 17-April 23.
- The in-person auction takes place April 29 from 6:30-11pm at Urban Studios in the Pearl District. This is a fun, adults-only night out consisting of unlimited food and drink, music and an opportunity to bid on items in our live auction and a silent auction. Tickets are available at Beach School Bash 2023 (schoolauction.net).
I’ve never been to a school auction before. What can I expect?
We anticipate many community members will be joining us this year for their first auction! We are so excited to have you all attend. The first portion of the event will be a time for casual conversation, connection, food and drinks and music. During this time you can also bid on items in our silent auction, connect with other Beach families and staff, and remember how nice it is to be out without your kid(s)! We will then move into our live auction portion, which includes a couple of fun games and activities. After the live auction we still have the place reserved for a couple of hours for more dancing, socializing and fun!
How am I supposed to dress for this event?
Everyone should come in whatever makes them most comfortable! If you prefer more direction than that then think of what you’d like to wear for an evening out to your favorite restaurant.
Can my children attend?
We love your children and that is why we are fundraising for all Beach students! That being said, this event is a 21+ event.
I need to get a sitter. How long does the event last?
The event starts at 6:30 pm at Urban Studios at 935 NW Davis St in the Pearl District The live auction runs from 8-9 pm. Our volunteers will be working non stop to get everyone checked out; that being said it will likely take 30 minutes to get everyone’s bids into the system so please anticipate staying until at least 10 pm. However, we have the place reserved until 11 and highly recommend staying until the end!
I don’t drink alcohol. Can I still attend this event?
Of course!!! While alcohol will be served at the event, this event is open to all adult members of our community. Non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.
I can’t attend the auction; how else can I support?
The online auction is going on until Sunday, April 23 and you do not need to purchase a ticket in order to participate in the online auction. Additionally, we accept donations year round on our website. All donations are tax deductible.
I’d like to attend the auction but it's too expensive for me. Are there other options?
We have a limited amount of sponsored tickets available on a first come first serve basis. Please reach out to amber.r.elf@gmail.com if you’d like to request one. Additionally, you can participate in our online auction, donate anytime on our website, or attend our Beach Rocks sliding scale fundraiser in June.
Why do we have the Beach School Bash?
The Beach School Bash is a fundraising event and typically raises over 80% of our BCU funds in any given year. Funds raised during this event allow the Beach Community Union to support the school. Examples include the Beach SUN program (free after school enrichment for Beach students), teacher grants, field trips and the Beach Family Fund, which supports families in need at our school. These programs would not be possible without fundraising efforts like the Beach School Bash.
At the same time, we recognize that because it is a fundraising event it is inherently not an equitable event and not all families can afford to attend. We looked at different options (i.e. holding multiple smaller fundraisers instead or forgoing raising funds) but decided to stick with the Beach School Bash this year for the following reasons:
1) We preferred not to be asking families for money all year long.
2) When we looked at the amount of funds brought in by different events, we realized we would need to host at least monthly fundraising events to raise what the auction raises in one night. We preferred to strongly focus our fundraising on one event, and focus on events throughout the year that prioritize connection and community building, without asking for money. This includes our movie night and school dance.
That being said, we welcome feedback and ideas about how to fundraise for our school in different and/or more equitable ways in future years. Please reach out to us at beachcommunityunion@gmail.com with any ideas you have.
