Support the BCU

Here are a few ways to support the Beach Community Union and activities at the school.

Donate

There are two easy ways to donate to community priorities (such as teacher grants, SUN School, and student union affinity groups) via BCU. Recurring donations at any amount are incredibly valuable since they help us budget in advance!

Volunteer

Send an email to the BCU Volunteer Coordinator, Elena Hernandez, at
BCUVolunteering@gmail.com to receive notifications of current and upcoming volunteer
opportunities.

To volunteer inside the school, PPS requires a background check. It’s a simple process and the
background check is valid for 3 years. This process can be done at:

Recess Support

Recess volunteering is back! Recess volunteers are there to promote kind words and fair play, to engage kids in a game, and to use paper rock scissors to solve any arguments in a game.

Volunteers are required to have completed the PPS Background check before being a recess volunteer. Once that is done, you can sign up for a recess shift HERE on Sign Up Genius. Please check in at the office before going out to the black top or field for your shift.

Room Volunteers
We are currently recruiting volunteers for the Room Volunteer Program (a.k.a. room parent program), so every teacher has a volunteer to assist them. If this is something you're interested in, please email Brenna at BCUVolunteering@gmail.com with your name and the grade/classroom you'd like to be a volunteer for.

Garden Volunteers

  • Weekly gardening - every Wednesday afternoon during the school year between 1pm and 3pm. Help us prepare gardens for SUN school and classroom use! She'll be out by the veggie, pollinator, and raised bed gardens between 1pm and 3pm on Wednesday afternoons. Because this is during school hours, you will need to have completed the PPS Volunteer Background Check and must check in with the office before heading to the gardens.
  • Grounds and gardens work parties. Contact Ali to be added to the Friends of Beach Gardens listserv, for information about upcoming work parties. Want to lead a weekend or after school work party (with the general Beach community or with a targeted community such as your coworkers)? We can help get you set up! There's a lot we can do together to make the grounds and gardens more safe, inviting, and supportive of students and staff.

Bottles for Beach

You can use your recyclable cans and bottles to support the Beach Community Union. There is a permanent spot to pick up new bags, and drop off full donation bags just inside the school entrance (office side). You can also drop bags off on your own at any bottle drop location (Find locations HERE. You can also email Amber to make alternative arrangements.

Any beverage you pay a deposit on can be put into your blue bag, and all those bottle deposits go directly to the BCU!
